Some events sound severe and leave no mark on the one public series we measure; some sound minor and leave a large one. This gallery pulls out both, from 73 published records, 36 of which have a final computed effect. Data through 2026-10-25 (25 October 2026).
How records are selected
Each record contributes one figure: its lead measured effect, the current primary row with the largest absolute standardised score. This is the same figure the event comparison tool uses.
A record needs a real computed, final (not provisional) effect row. Records with no measurable effect, or whose effect is not yet computed, are left out.
Quiet data means the standardised score is under 2 in absolute value (not distinguishable from day-to-day variation) and any percentage change is under 10%.
Loud data means a standardised score of at least 3 in absolute value and, where a percentage exists, a move of at least 20%. A rise counts as well as a fall.
Loud record is severity 3 or more on the severity rubric; quiet record is severity 2 or lower.
Limits: the counts are small, so nothing here is a rate or a trend. The series are noisy and a single event can sit on a quiet day or a busy one. Each event is judged on one series only, so a quiet result for that series says nothing about other ports, routes or goods. Severity also weighs things a daily count cannot see, such as lives, damage and duration. The thresholds are a judgement call, set once and documented here.
This is a measured change in public data during the event window, compared with a baseline before it. It shows timing, not cause. We describe an event as causing a change only when an official source says so.
Loud in the record, quiet in the data
Rated severity 3 or more, yet the lead measured series barely moved. 8 of 36 measured records.
